Email Virus
Many viruses find their way into your computer through email. Scan email for viruses before downloading to your computer.
You may be receiving messages from people stating that you have a virus. When you scan for infection it states no viruses are found.
A characteristic of this virus is that it can actually have people falsely accusing you of sending them infected email.
-Lets say your friend John gets infected with the KLEZ virus
-The virus finds your email address somewhere in John’s computer (possibly in his address book or in his documents)
-The virus starts sending email from John’s computer using YOUR email address
-The recipients of this infected email naturally think the email came from your computer because it contains your email address in the “From:” line (not John’s)
-They naturally assume YOUR computer is infected and they reply to you stating you have a virus (when actually John’s computer is infected)
-Let’s assume you are fully up-to-date with your virus software and Microsoft security patches. You will perform a complete virus scan and come up clean.
-Meanwhile John’s computer continues sending email with your forged address
